Lanyards Are Convenient, Versatile Tools In The Workplace
Lanyards are a common item in the world today. They seem to be just about everywhere. They are a simple tool, but one that is increasingly necessary in a security-conscious world. As a rule, lanyards perform a single function, and they do it well.
Lanyards can be used for several purposes, but by far the most common use is to hold I.D. badges at schools and in the workplace. As more and more facilities have increased their security standards over the past decade, many have implemented the requirement that students, employees and sometimes even visitors keep I.D. badges visible at all times.
Although there are multiple ways to carry I.D. badges, key cards and similar items, lanyards are a versatile choice that ranks among the most convenient methods. Lanyards mean wearers don’t have to worry about groping in purses, pockets, backpacks or briefcases when they need their I.D. cards. The I.D. card is always there, safely attached to the lanyard hanging around the wearer’s neck, not buried in some difficult to find location.
Other types of badge holders offer significant disadvantages when compared with lanyards. Clip-on badge holders can be easily lost. Pin-back badge holders are secure, but make holes in clothing, which many people find unacceptable. Badge reels are handy, but can position the I.D. at too low an angle to be readily visible.
Lanyards are an ideal solution. They keep the requisite I.D. or key card visible, yet conveniently out of the way, leaving the hands free to perform necessary job tasks. Lanyards are generally a “put it on and forget about it” item.
Another significant advantage to lanyards is that they’re not limited to just I.D. holders. With the right attachments, they can be used to hold small tools and other items necessary in the workplace. Lanyards can be equipped to hold items ranging from safety gear such as ear protectors to pens, water bottles, screwdrivers and wrenches, even cell phones.
In areas such as machine shops where lanyards could be a safety hazard, they can be equipped with safety breakaways. These are usually offered as a free option by reputable lanyard suppliers. If a lanyard gets caught on something or drawn into running machines, the reusable breakaways will pop loose, allowing the lanyard to be pulled safely away from the wearer before the wearer can be injured.For many applications, blank lanyards are sufficient. But for high-visibility applications such as schools and customer service, they also are available with custom printed messages as well.
School lanyards, for example, can be printed with the school mascot and name on them, a way to increase school spirit. In the business world, they can be imprinted with a business name and logo, a subtle marketing message for customers who see staff members wearing lanyards. Even in non-public areas of the business, printed lanyards can help maintain employee morale and a sense of affiliation with the employer.
Custom lanyards printed with a company’s name and contact information also are an economical way to get a marketing message out. Offer them as giveaway items at trade shows, and they’re a great way to get information into the hands of prospective customers while also giving them something they can use.
